King's Kids Minnesota Fighting Hunger
The King’s Kids Minnesota team has an acute worldview. Members of our team come from the Phillipines, Ethiopia and of course Norwegian descent, and collectively, we have been to many more nations, as well. Our meetings always include intercession for the nations of the world with a focus on a different nation each time we meet.
As we learned more about the issue of world hunger, we prayed about how we could become a solution to the problem. Last year we became aware of Feeding Children International (www.feedingchildren.org) and the satellite program called Kids Against Hunger® .
King’s Kids Minnesota leaders, Jeff and Kathy Boyum, have been pursuing action possibilities in China and North Korea for years, and have realized that Kids Against Hunger® may provide an avenue for relief efforts into these nations.
As stated earlier, the local King’s Kids team wanted to have an impact on world hunger. Kids Against Hunger® provides a hands-on opportunity for the Team to be involved directly by raising money and packaging the food.
The local Kids Against Hunger® satellite is part of a nationwide organization which exists to eradicate world hunger. However, our satellite is a grassroots, local activity. It has been great to see different groups, like school classes, youth groups and other community groups, get involved in this important ministry.
Having added Kids Against Hunger®-Cambridge Satellite to the King’s Kids ministry in Minnesota, we’ve seen enthusiastic responses from youth groups and community groups that previously would not give YWAM or King’s Kids a second look. Through their involvement in this ministry, we’ve opened doors to these groups into opportunities that would otherwise never have existed for them. We’ve also packaged and shipped over 50,000 meals in the few months the Kids Against Hunger®-Cambridge Satellite has been in existence.
This is an opportunity that YWAM bases, King’s Kids International Ministries and GO Networks have to connect with and bring relief to starving people all over the world. It can also help open new doors into the communities in which these YWAM-related ministries exist.
Kids Against Hunger® is an international food relief campaign of Feeding Children International. Our mission is to eradicate world hunger and prevent any more children from starving to death.
The solution is revolutionary food packet that's been developed by some of the world's leading food scientists at Cargill, Pillsbury, General Mills and Archer Daniels Midland. This one packet provides six nutritionally-complete servings to feed the starving children around the world as well as the hungry here at home.
The Kids Against Hunger® program began as a small locally-based project of its parent organization, Feeding Children International. However, before long, the idea of kids helping other kids to combat hunger grew in popularity. As a result, the program expanded in scope and size to include 21 packaging satellites spread across the United States.
Kids Against Hunger® not only nourishes hungry children, but the spirit of its volunteers. Each week, as volunteers package hundreds of much-needed food servings, they also get a chance to talk, share, laugh and reconnect with one another through the program. More importantly, through their packaging efforts, volunteers learn and reaffirm the importance of looking beyond themselves and towards serving the needs of others. |
